THE HILL | The Alabama A&M University men's basketball team returns home for a pair of games as the Bulldogs look to end a two-game Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAAC) losing streak. AAMU will play host to Southern on Saturday during NPHC Organization Day and conclude the homestand on Monday against Grambling State.
The Bulldogs and Jaguars will tip-off on Saturday at 4 p.m. from the AAMU Event Center and streamed on Bulldogs All-Access.
Alabama A&M (7-15 overall, 3-6 SWAC) is coming off road losses to Florida A&M and Bethune-Cookman and will look for its first win since defeating Prairie View A&M, 98-82, on Jan. 27.
The Bulldogs have won four out of their last five games over Southern, including a 66-56 victory last season in Huntsville.
Alabama A&M is averaging 77.0 points per game and shooting nearly 41.1 percent from the field.
The Bulldogs rank third nationally in offensive rebounds per game and sixth in turnovers forced per game. In addition, AAMU is 11
th in bench points and 17
th in fastbreak points.
AC Bryant leads two Bulldog players in double figures, averaging 14.7 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.3 steals, while
Chad Moodie has posted 11.3 points, 5.7 boards, 2.0 blocks and 1.3 steals per game.
Southern is the hottest team and only undefeated team in the conference.
The Jaguars are 14-8 overall and 9-0 in league play, having not dropped a game since a 77-43 defeat at Nebraska on Dec. 30.
Of the nine SWAC victories, five of them have been 10 points or less, including Monday's 91-89 overtime win at home against Jackson State.
JSU led 89-87 with 48 seconds left, but Southern closed the game strong with four straight points, including two free throws by Michael Jacobs to pick up the win.
Jordan Johnson and Jacobs pace the Jaguar offensive by averaging 10.0 points per game.
Southern is shooting 44.3 percent from the floor and averaging nearly 76.4 points per game.
After Saturday's game, the Bulldogs will close out their two-game homestand on Monday against Grambling State. Tip-off against the Tigers is scheduled for 7 p.m. from the AAMU Event Center and streamed on Bulldogs All-Access.
