Bryant Receives SWAC Second Team Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Alabama A&M University junior guard AC Bryant was selected to the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Men's Basketball Postseason Second Team, the conference announced on Monday night.
 
Bryant places the Alabama A&M offense, averaging 14.2 points and shooting 48.1 percent from the floor and 39.7 percent from behind the 3-point line. He is also averaging 4.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.4 steals per game. 
 
The Shreveport, La. native has posted double figures in scoring 21 times, including two games of 30-plus scoring outputs. He poured in a career-high 39 points, on 13-of-21 shooting, in a triple-overtime loss to Jackson State on Jan. 13 and added 31 points, on 13-of-17 shooting, in a win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Feb. 17.
 
Trey Thomas (Bethune-Cookman), Sterling Young (Florida A&M), Amarr Knox (Alabama State), Michael Jacobs (Southern) and Tanahj Pettway (Prairie View A&M) received SWAC First-Team honors.
 
Joining Bryant on the second team were TJ Madlock (Alabama State), Daniel Rouzan (Bethune-Cookman), Kavion McClain (Texas Southern) and Shannon Grant (Jackson State).
 
Jackson State's Dorian McMillian was named the SWAC Freshman of the Year, while Milton Matthews, of Florida A&M, earned Newcomer of the Year honors. Southern's Andre Nunley received the Defensive Player of the Year honor, while FAMU's Young garnered the SWAC's Player of the Year award. Southern's Kevin Johnson was selected the Coach of the Year.
 
Alabama A&M, the ninth seed, will open the SWAC Men's Basketball Tournament on Tuesday against eighth-seeded Grambling State in the opening round. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. (central time) from the Gateway Center and streamed on ESPN+.
