THE HILL | In a mid-season non-conference match, the Alabama A&M University women's team dominated the Bethel University (TN) Wildcats 7-0 at the AAMU Tennis Courts on Friday morning.
The Maroon and White claimed the doubles point in less than 30 minutes, with Sofia Sotelo Raya and Ntokozo Zungu blanking BU's Alejandra Vargas 6-0 on court two. At third doubles, the pair of Naomi Blanks and Hannah Nagpall took a 6-2 victory over Bethel's Tessa Mtutu and Martina Coghetto. With the doubles point claimed, the opening court competition went unfinished, with the Bulldogs' Yana Dhamija and Alicia Owegi ahead 4-1.
The Bulldogs continued the winning streak, picking up wins on all six of the singles courts. Nagpall and Sotelo Raya won courts four and five by 6-1, 6-0 decisions respectively. Valentine Abide Talaki defeated Martina Coghetto in 6-2 straight sets on court three while Owegi claimed second singles with a 6-3, 6-0 decision. Zungu grabbed the victory on court one with a 6-1, 6-2 score before Blanks defeated Manuela Geraissati 8-0 at sixth singles.
The Bulldogs return to their conference slate to take on Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) rival Alabama State in Montgomery on Sunday at 1 p.m.
