THE HILL | The Alabama A&M University baseball team sent 12 players to plate in the first inning in scoring seven runs as the Bulldogs ended a three-game losing streak with a 22-5 victory over Oakwood on Tuesday afternoon at the Bulldog Baseball Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Alabama A&M (5-15) batted around in the bottom of the first inning in jumping out to a 7-0 lead.
Trey Rutledge was hit by a pitch and
AJ Anderson drew a walk to begin the frame.
Kylan Duncan brought Rutledge in on a single through the left side and Anderson scored when he stole third and came across on a throwing error by the catcher.
Charles Morris plated Duncan with a ground out to the shortstop.
Dre Amaral followed with a walk and scored on
Isaac Castro's triple to right.
Angel Rivera and
Xavier O'Neal waked. After a pitching change, Rutledge plated Rivera with a bloop single to center. O'Neal scored the final run of the inning on a wild pitch.
The Bulldogs added to the advantage with four more runs in the bottom of the second to stretch the lead to 11-0.
With one down, Morris doubled off the wall in right and advanced to third on a base hit to center by Amaral. Morris scored on Castro's base hit to left center as Amaral stopped at third. Amaral came across when Castro stole second. Rivera scored Castro with a single through the left side. O'Neal singled to left and moved to second on an error. Rutledge reached on an infield hit, loading the bases. Anderson plated Rivera for the final runs of the inning.
Oakwood (0-19) struck for two runs in the third, closing the deficit to 11-2, but back came Alabama A&M in the bottom of the frame with a pair of runs to extend the advantage to 13-2.
In the inning,
Wilmer Cuevas singled through the left side and came around to score on a Morris double to right. After Amaral reached on an error, Castro brought Morris across with an RBI single to center.
The Bulldogs stretched their lead in the bottom of the fourth to 15-2 with a pair of runs in the inning.
Oakwood added three runs on three hits in the top half of the fifth inning, cutting the deficit to 15-5.
The Bulldogs answered in the bottom of the frame and put the game out of reach with six runs to extend the advantage to 21-5.

- Alabama A&M finished with 22 runs on 19 hits and stranded 10 on base

- Killian McLaughlin (1-0) picked up his first win of the season, going five innings and surrendering five runs on six hits, fanning a career-high eight and walking three
- Elvis Victoriano worked the final two innings in relief
- Oakwood finished with five runs on seven hits, committed five errors and left eight on base
- Eli Kennedy (0-5) took the loss, giving up seven runs (six earned) on two hits, along with four walks, in just 0.2 of an inning
- Dakota Cobb, Akari David and Anthony Brent Jr. pitched in relief
