BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Continuing their Alabama road swing, the Alabama A&M men's tennis team will take on the University of Alabama at Birmingham on Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Hoover Met Tennis Center in Hoover, Alabama.
The Bulldogs took on North Alabama, Alabama State and Auburn University as part of the road swing before they head to Birmingham. The Maroon and White claimed the doubles point against Auburn, where Yin Chih Lan and Agustin Marquez won court three, taking a 6-4 win over AU's duo of Nicholas Heng and Hamza Nasridinov. With the Tigers claiming court two, the doubles point came down to the opening court, where Bulldog pair of Kai Cowcher and Tasso Moreira ultimately emerged victorious, winning in a 7-5 tie breaker.
The Blazers got back into the winning column after dropping a pair to Wichita State and Charlotte when they defeated Furman in a 4-3 decision. After losing the duo point and sixth singles, the Blazers claimed courts three and four to level the match. Furman added a victory at fourth singles, but UAB responded quickly with a win on court five. With the win coming down to court two, sophomore Ondrej Valek claimed the first set in a 7-6(3) tie breaker but dropped a close 7-5 decision in the second set to force a third frame. Ondrej picked up a 6-3 win in the final set to clinch the win for the Blazers.
The Blazers and Bulldogs have met nine times, with the Bulldogs still battling for their first series victory.
