MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The Alabama A&M women's tennis team downed the Alcorn State Braves on Sunday afternoon after blanking them in a 4-0 sweep.
The Bulldogs claimed the doubles point when Gabrielle Henderson and Sofia Sotelo Raya defeated Oihane Villanueva Lopez and Nikita Liyanage 6-4 on the second court. Shortly thereafter, the Bulldog pair of Yana Dhamija and Alicia Owegi topped Natalijia Nikolic and Ozi-oiza Josephine Yakubu 6-3.
Using that momentum, the Maroon and White claimed another point at sixth singles. Gabrielle Henderson earned a point of her own after defeating Yakubu at singles four, including a bagel in the second set (6-3, 6-0). Valentine Abide Talaki claimed what would become the Bulldogs' final point of the afternoon with a pair of bakery set wins, earning a bagel in the first and a breadstick win in the second (6-0, 6-1) to clinch the match.
UP NEXT
The Bulldogs head just a couple of hours north for a mid-season nonconference matchup, where they will face Tennessee State University in Nashville on April 2 at 1 p.m.
