BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Niall Bagnall carded a 1-under-par 71 and is among the leaders as the Alabama A&M University men's golf team concluding the opening round of the 2025 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Championships in fourth place.
Bagnall, who is tied for third with Southern's Thomas Reid, is just one shot back of leaders Miguel Ilas (Florida A&M) and Tristan Garrett (Texas Southern) heading into Tuesday's second round.
Bagnall bogeyed the opening hole and the sixth hole, but rebounded with birdies at No. 4, No. 9 and No. 14 to finish with a 71 to lead the way for Alabama A&M.
Samuel Boddie, tied for ninth, was nearly as impressive as Bagnall's first round, shooting a 1-over-par 73. He double-bogeyed No. 4 and had bogies at No. 7, No. 15 and No. 16, but had three birdies on the day at the par-3 No. 5, No. 12 and No. 18.
Lukas Lange sits in a tie for 13
th after firing a 77, carding a birdie at No. 17, while
Kourey Patterson – in 33
rd place – shot an 84. Cornelious Brown IV finished 16-over with an 88 and is 35
th.
The Bulldogs shot an opening-round 307 and sits in fourth, while Florida A&M leads the field, shooting a 6-over-par 294. Arkansas-Pine Bluff is second, firing a 299, while Texas Southern shot a 301 and is third. Southern (308), Prairie View A&M (311) and Alabama State (319) round out the seven-team field.

Alabama A&M returns to action for Day 2 of the 2025 SWAC Men's Golf Championship on Tuesday with another 18 holes at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Oxmoor Valley in Birmingham, Ala. The Bulldogs are slated to tee off at approximately 8 a.m.
