THE HILL | In the final home game of the regular season, the Alabama A&M University Bulldogs dropped a 12-3 decision to Alabama State on Friday afternoon.
A pair of seniors scored in the Senior Day match up. The Bulldogs saw three up and three down at the top of the first and were the first to score at the bottom of the second when Allyson Riches doubled to left center then scored when senior Zahria Jones flied out to center field, but allowing Riches to score in the process. The host team scored five runs at the top of the third, highlighted by a triple from Brooke Ramsey that brought two runners across base. ASU took a six-point lead when they added another run at the top of the fourth when Ramsey popped up to second base, giving JaNiyah Boykin an unearned run.
AAMU scored their final run of the contest at the bottom of the fourth when Riches saw yet another double, this time scoring Maria Paula Ocrospoma-Figueroa. Alabama State added six more runs, five of them coming at the top of the seventh, to solidify their victory.
Alabama State recorded 12 runs on 15 hits with no errors, while AAMU saw three runs on five hits with seven errors. The teams end the regular season in a split, as the Bulldogs claimed a 2-1 series win earlier this season in Montgomery.
