NEW ORLEANS | The doubles point proved to be the difference as the Alabama A&M University men's tennis team fell 4-3 to the Jackson State Tigers in the semifinal round of the 2025 Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament.
The Tigers claimed courts one and three in the doubles session to take the early lead.
JSU added a singles point on court one, but The Bulldogs finally added one to the win column when Kai Cowcher defeated Alejandro Pinilla 6-2, 6-0 on the opening court. Jackson state would take a two-point advantage after claiming court three. With JSU needing just one point to clinch, AAMU quickly leveled the contest. Yin Chih Lan defeated Federick Pickenstainer 7-6 (4), 6-4 on court two. All-SWAC First Team awardee Tasso Moreira added the squaring point, as he knocked off JSU's Ching Chang Chiu 6-7(3), 6-2, 6-1 at singles four. Jackson State ultimately claimed the match after adding their third singles win at court six to move on to the championship round where they will face the No. 1 seed Alabama State on Sunday.
