Bulldogs Unable to Respond, Drop Weekend Series

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. | The Alabama A&M University softball team struggled in a Saturday doubleheader against the Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman University, falling 11-0 and 17-0 in the pair of contests.

The Wildcats saw a four-run first inning, similarly to Friday's match up. There were Wildcat jerseys at second and third when Briana Velazquez doubled, bringing them both around for the first points of the afternoon. In the next at-bat, Molly Blackwood homered, allowing Valezquez to cross home plate in the process. The Wildcats picked up two more runs in the bottom of the second before scoring the final five runs in the bottom of the third.

The Bulldogs recorded four hits compared to B-CU's 7, but were ultimately unable to get on the scoreboard in the first game.

In the following meeting, Shania Owens opened play with a homerun. B-CU added three more runs before exploding in the bottom of the third, adding 10 more runs to bring the tally to 14-0, in favor of the host team. AAMU was unable to respond at the top of the fourth and Bethune-Cookman scored three more at the bottom of the frame to solidify their 17-0 victory.
