Trey Rutledge was recently selected to the Black College Nines Large School Division Elite Second Team.

Rutledge, who ranks tops in the country in on-base percentage (.573) and fifth in stolen bases per game, led the Bulldogs in batting, with a .397 average. He registered 40 hits, including seven doubles, three triples and one home run.

The Irondale, Ala. native was 34-of-37 in stolen bases, drawing 37 walks and scored 56 times as he was selected to the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Postseason Second Team in May.

Southern's Cardell Thibodeaux was named the Black College Nines Large Division Player of the Year, while Jackson State's Eric Elliott and Bethune-Cookman's Edwin Sanchez shared the Pitcher of the year honors. Garrett Workman, of Florida A&M, was chosen the Freshman of the Year, and BCU's Jonathan Hernandez was tabbed the Coach of the Year.

Selections were made based upon statistical information, mid-season reports including research provided by Black College Nines and both coaching staffs and their sports information directors. Player, pitcher, freshman and coach of the year awards were voted upon by Black College Nines and members of the national media.
