THE HILL | The Alabama A&M University baseball team jumped out to a five-run lead after three innings and nearly rallied late as the Bulldogs dropped the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series opener to Florida A&M, 9-8, on Thursday afternoon from Bulldog Field.

Florida A&M (22-22 overall, 17-8 SWAC) picked up a run in the top of the first inning but saw Alabama A&M answer in the bottom of the frame.

Miles Jackson began the inning with an infield hit, but was out at second when
Brycen Hammonds reached on a fielder's choice.
Tarris Murray followed with a base hit to left to score Hammonds.
Zak Rice doubled to right to plate Murray. With two down,
AJ Anderson singled to center to score Rice as the Bulldogs grabbed a 3-1 lead.

Alabama A&M (10-39, 4-21) loaded the bases in the second inning and came away with two runs to extended the advantage to 5-1.

The Bulldogs pushed across another run in the third when
Keilon Parnell scored when Jackson reached on an error.

The Rattlers exploded for six runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth to take a 9-6 lead.

Alabama A&M tried to rally and picked up a pair of runs in the sixth to close the gap to 9-8.

Jackson began the inning by being hit by a pitch and with one down, Murray singled to center. Rice followed with a base hit to left as Jackson scored. After a pitching change,
Keondre Fields drew a walk and Anderson brought Murray across with a sacrifice fly to right.

Jackson paced by the AAMU offense by going 3-for-4, with a pair of runs scored. Murray and Rice both finished 2-for-4 at the plate.

Raymond Clark (0-3) took the loss, giving up seven runs on eight hits, with three strikeouts and a pair of walks in 3.2 innings.
Bryce Dolce,
Antonio Torres and
Brady Baxter pitched in relief.

Cody Williams started on the bump for the Rattlers and lasted 1.1 innings. He surrendered five runs (three earned) on six hits, with two strikeouts and one walk. Clark Lincoln (2-1) and Ryan Young worked out of the Bullpen.

Alabama A&M concludes its three-game SWAC series with Florida A&M with a doubleheader on Saturday. First Pitch is set for 12 p.m. from the Bulldog Baseball Field, with Senior Day festivities beginning at approximately 11:10 a.m.
