THIBODAUX, La. | The Alabama A&M University volleyball team opened the Southland Conference/Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Challenge on Thursday night with a 3-0 loss to Nicholls State at the David R. Stopher Gymnasium.
Nicholls State (6-1) took the opening set, 25-23 and held off a late AAMU charge to claim the second set, 25-20. The Colonials rallied in the third set, defeating the Bulldogs 29-27 to earn the three-set victory.
Alabama A&M (5-2) finished with 35 kills, 47 digs, 32 assists, 10 service aces and seven blocks.
Fatima Ramirez led Alabama A&M with a double-double of 13 digs and 10 kills, along with two service aces.
Briana Smith and
Kaydee Smith recorded 16 and 12 assists, respectively.
Kelani Talakai also posted 13 digs.
Nicholls State finished with 47 kills, 54 digs, 44 assists, 10 blocks and two service aces.
Tamara Chavez recorded a double-double of 21 kills and 12 digs to pace Nicholls State. Madison Smith added 13 kills and nine digs, while Isabella Padilla dished out 38 assists and registered 11 digs. Karina Smith chipped in 12 digs.
