THE HILL | Rayishon Jackman posted17 kills as the Alabama A&M University volleyball team opened Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play with a 3-0 victory over Grambling State on Sunday afternoon at T.M. Elmore Gymnasium.
Alabama A&M (9-3 overall, 1-0 SWAC) rallied in the first set, winning 26-24, and cruised in the second set, 25-17. The Bulldogs came from as many as four down in the third to seal the match, 25-21.
Alabama A&M finished with 42 kills, hitting .219, with 41 assists, 34 digs, eight service aces and 5.0 total team blocks.
Jackman paced the offense with 17 kills, hitting .414, with seven digs, two blocks and one service ace.
Fatima Ramirez added eight kills, three digs and three service aces, while
Nisaan Martinez poured in seven kills and one dig.
Briana Smith and
Kaydee Smith dished out 23 and 12 assists, respectively and
Kelani Talakai led the defense with eight digs.
Grambling State (1-11, 0-2) finished with 32 kills, 39 digs, 32 assists, three service aces and three total team blocks.
Kenya Lucas led the Tigers offensively with 10 kills, two digs, one block sol and one service ace. Rihianna Brown chipped in nine kills, three digs and one assist. Alayna Howard and Reece Cook recorded 14 and 11 assists, respectively, while Leisey Keli'I tallied a team-high 10 digs.
