Win Streak Moves to Five Straight as Alabama A&M Routs PVAMU

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas | Three Alabama A&M University women's basketball players post double figures in scoring as the Bulldogs rolled to their fifth straight victory – third by more than 20 points - with a 68-41 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) rout over Prairie View A&M on Thursday night at the William J. Nicks Building.
 
Kalia Walker paced Alabama A&M (9-9 overall, 5-1 SWAC) with 17 points, on 6-of-8 shooting, with two rebounds, a pair of steals and one assist, while Coriah Beck scored nine of her 15 points in the opening half, while adding four boards, three steals and two blocks. Rakiyah Beal chipped in 10 points and five boards and Jaida Belton led the defense with a game-high 11 rebounds, along with seven points.
 
Alabama A&M led from start to finish, using ball pressure and transition offense to build a double-digit advantage by the end of the first quarter and never looked back. The Bulldogs forced 23 turnovers and converted those miscues into easy baskets, outscoring Prairie View A&M, 21–14, in fast-break points and 40–12 in the paint.
 
The Bulldogs carried a 15–11 lead after the opening quarter before taking control in the second. Alabama A&M limited Prairie View A&M to just six points in the period, closing the half on a decisive run to take a 34–17 advantage into the locker room.
 
Out of halftime, the Bulldogs continued to dictate the pace. Alabama A&M outscored Prairie View A&M, 22–11, in the third quarter, pushing the lead past 25 as the defense held the Panthers to under 30 percent shooting for the game. 
 
Alana Shields led Prairie View A&M (2-16, 0-7) with 11 points, five steals, three boards and one assist.
 
UP NEXT
Alabama A&M concludes its Texas swing on Saturday at Texas Southern. Tip-off against the Tigers is scheduled for 12 p.m. from the H&PE Arena and streamed on HBCU GO.
