AAMU Drops 6-1 Decision to Jackson State

PEARL, Miss. | The Alabama A&M University baseball team concluded the second day of the MLB HBCU Power Series with a 6-1 loss to Jackson State on Saturday night at Trustmark Park.

The Bulldogs (0-1) were limited to three hits on the night, while the Tigers capitalized on key opportunities and Alabama A&M miscues to secure the victory.

Jackson State (1-1) broke through in the bottom of the second inning. After a leadoff single and advancement on a passed ball and wild pitch, Ledy Alvarez delivered a two-out double to right center to plate the game's first run. A wild pitch moments later allowed another run to score, giving the Tigers a 2-0 lead.

Alabama A&M threatened in the third when AJ Anderson singled to center and later stole second, but the Bulldogs were unable to bring him home.

The Tigers extended the margin in the fifth inning, scoring three runs — all unearned. A wild pitch and throwing errors allowed Jackson State to push its lead to 5-0 despite recording just one hit in the frame.

The Bulldogs responded in the top of the seventh. KJ Stanfield drew a leadoff walk, advanced on a wild pitch and stolen base, and later scored when Tervell Johnson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to cut the deficit to 5-1.

Jackson State added an insurance run in the eighth on an RBI single by Troy Wilson Jr., closing the scoring at 6-1.

Anderson paced Alabama A&M at the plate, finishing 2-for-4 with a double. Charles Morris added a hit, while the Bulldogs drew five walks and swiped multiple bases, including two by Keilon Parnell.

On the mound, Edyn Barber struck out five over three innings of work, allowing two runs. Antonio Torres tossed five innings in relief, recording seven strikeouts while allowing four runs (one earned).
