Alabama A&M Sweep Oakwood in Doubleheader

THE HILL | The Alabama A&M softball team secured a doubleheader sweep over Oakwood on Wednesday afternoon at Bulldog Field, earning a 15-6 victory in game one before closing out the day with a 14-4 win. 


The Bulldogs wasted no time setting the tone, erupting for five runs in the opening inning and adding six more in the second to take firm control early. 

 


Kail Austerman, Jaliyah Grigsby, Kara Burman and McKenna Furnari all delivered RBI hits in the first inning as AAMU jumped ahead 5-0. The offensive surge continued in the second when Grigsby launched a two-run home run and Burman followed with a solo homer. Grace Cruthis and Rayven Ramos each added RBI doubles to extend the lead to 11-0. 

 


Oakwood answered with a three-run homer in the third, but the Bulldogs responded with two more runs in the bottom half behind a two-RBI double from Furnari. Alabama A&M tacked on two additional runs in the fifth to seal the 15-6 decision.

 


Furnari earned the win on the mound, tossing five innings while allowing six runs and striking out one. 

 


Grigsby paced the offense with a home run and three RBI, while Burman added a homer and two RBI.

 

GAME 2 
 

The Bulldogs carried their momentum into the second game, putting up 10 runs in the first inning to put the game out of reach early. 


Grigsby delivered a grand slam in the opening inning, and Austerman later added a two-run home run as the Bulldogs built on aggressive baserunning and key hits at the plate.


Ariana Montiel recorded a triple and double while swiping two bases, and the Bulldogs continued to keep Oakwood on their heels throughout the game.Grigsby finished game two with two home runs and six RBI, leading a 12-hit effort from the Bulldogs.


Burman picked up a victory in the circle, allowing four runs over four innings while striking out five. 
 

With the doubleheader sweep, Alabama A&M softball improves to 12-5 overall on the season. 
 

UP NEXT 

Alabama A&M will be on the road to Johnson City, Tennessee to play a doubleheader against East Tennessee State. First pitch is scheduled to start at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
