THE HILL | The Alabama A&M University women's basketball team will close out the regular season with three straight home games, starting on Saturday when the Bulldogs seek a season sweep of Alabama State on Senior Day at the AAMU Event Center.
Tip-off for Saturday's Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) contest is set for 2 p.m., while the Bulldogs will play host to Grambling State on Tuesday and end the regular season on Thursday against Southern. Tip-off for both those games is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and streamed on SWAC TV.
Alabama A&M can clinch at least a share of the regular season SWAC title with a win on Saturday. The Bulldogs currently hold a two-game lead over second-place Alcorn State in the conference standings, with three games remaining. AAMU has won 14 straight games since beginning the conference slate with a loss and is seeking a sweep against its biggest rival for the third consecutive season.
Alabama State, which is 7-8 in road games this season, enters Saturday's matchup riding a four-game winning streak. The Hornets held off Florida A&M, 62-59, last weekend in Tallahassee, Fla., and have not lost a game since a 67-53 defeat at Grambling State on Feb. 7.
Grambling State, 3-11 on the road this season, will play host to Florida A&M on Saturday before traveling to Huntsville. The Tigers have won the past two games, including a 71-68 victory on Thursday night against Bethune-Cookman.
Southern, which is 7-9 on the road this season, closes out the regular season with a home game versus Bethune-Cookman on Saturday and trips to Alabama State and Alabama A&M. The Jaguars have won four straight and have not dropped a game since a 56-54 decision to the Bulldogs on Feb. 7.
Bulldogs at a Glance
Alabama A&M is averaging 63.0 points per game and shooting 39.9 percent from the floor.
Kalia Walker leads the Bulldogs offense by averaging 14.0 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.5 steals, while
Moses Davenport is recording 10.5 points and 6.1 boards.
Coriah Beck is averaging 9.8 points, 4.4 boards and 2.0 assists.
The Bulldogs rank tops in the conference in several statistical categories, including free-throw attempts (sixth nationally), scoring defense (17

rdnationally), field goal percentage, fouls per game, rebound margin, scoring margin.
Walker leads the SWAC – 19
th nationally – in free-throw percentage and in free throws.
Scouting Alabama State
The Hornets are shooting nearly 40.0 percent from the floor and averaging 61.2 points per game.
Shamya Reid and Caylee Simpson pace ASU at 8.9 points, while Clearia Peterson is posting 8.4 points per game.
The Hornets lead the conference in defensive rebounds per game and is second in field goal percentage, field goal percentage defense and rebounds per game. Peterson is also second in the SWAC in rebounds per game.
Scouting Grambling State
The Tigers are shooting 36.2 percent from the floor and averaging 63.7 points per game.
Shaniah Nunn paces GSU at 12.5 points, 7.9 boards and 1.7 steals, while Monica Marsh is registering 10.5 points, 2.5 boards, 2.4 assists and 1.5 steals.
Grambling State is tops in the league in bench points per game (12
th nationally), offensive rebounds per game, rebounds per game and turnovers forced per game. Nunn ranks first in the conference in field goal percentage, rebounds and rebounds per game.
Scouting Southern
The Jaguars are averaging 61.4 points and shooting 37.8 percent from the floor.
DeMya Porter leads the team at 9.9 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.2 steals and 1.1 blocks, while Zaria Hurston is averaging 8.1 points, 5.6 boards, 1.4 steals and 1.0 assists.
The Jaguars are tops in the SWAC in steals per game, turnover margin and turnovers per game, while Mykayla Cunningham leads the league in assist/turnover ratio and is second in assists per game.
Alabama State Series History
This will be the 48
th meeting between the two programs as Alabama State holds a 26-21 lead in the series.
The Bulldogs have won seven out of their last eight games. The last time Alabama State won in Huntsville was on Feb. 10, 2018 – a 55-44 victory.
Grambling State Series History
This will be the 36
th meeting between the two programs as Grambling State leads the all-time series, 21-14.
The Tigers have won three out of the past five meetings, but the Bulldogs come into the game having picked up a 54-50 road win on Feb. 5 in Grambling, La.
Southern Series History
This will be the 43
rd meeting between the Bulldogs and Jaguars as Southern leads the all-time series, 30-11.
Alabama A&M is 6-12 at home in the series and is seeking its first home victory over Southern since Feb. 4, 2023 – a 60-50 win.
