BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Alabama A&M University graduate outfielder
Tervell Johnson was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Hitter of the Week, the conference announced on Thursday afternoon.
Johnson batted .533 during the week as Alabama A&M went 2-2. The Atlanta, Ga. native was 8-for-15 at the plate, with three extra base hits (two doubles and one triple), scored six times and drove in five. He drew three walks and was hit by a pitch twice. In the series finale over Alcorn State, Johnson was 3-for-3, with one triple, two walks, drove in three and scored three times.
Texas Southern's Shaun Williams and Bethune-Cookman's Harbersting Abreu were chosen the SWAC Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.
Alabama A&M begins a three-game SWAC series on Friday at Grambling State. First pitch in the opener against the Tigers is scheduled for 4 p.m. from Wilbert Ellis Field at R.W.E. Jones Park.
