Davis, Graham Paces Bulldogs in Loss to Jaguars

THE HILL | Koron Davis and James Graham III combined for 42 points as the Alabama A&M University men's basketball team concluded the regular season with a 88-85 loss to Southern in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) finale on Thursday night at the AAMU Event Center.

Alabama A&M (17-14 overall, 10-8 SWAC) fell behind by as many as 15 points in the first half and trailed 43-30 at the break. Southern (15-16, 11-7) nearly surrendered the lead late as the Jaguars held on to complete the season sweep of AAMU.

Davis posted 23 points, three boards and one steal, while Graham recorded a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds, along with four assists and two steals. Kintavious Dozier scored all 12 points in the second half.

Terrance Dixon Jr. led the Jaguars with 19 points, four boards and one assist, while Michael Jacobs added 15 points, five boards, four assists and one steal. AJ Barnes chipped in 14 points and six boards.

First Half
Southern seized control early, scoring the first points of the night on a pair of free throws by Terrance Dixon Jr. before James Graham answered with a putback to tie the contest.
The Jaguars quickly created separation behind outside shooting from PJ Dobuol and Cam Amboree, sparking an early run that pushed Southern ahead 12-8.

Alabama A&M stayed within striking distance midway through the period as P.J. Eason and Graham combined to keep the Bulldogs close, cutting the deficit to one at 16-15 following a three-point play by Eason.

Southern responded with a decisive run fueled by transition baskets and second-chance points. Michael Jacobs scored on a fast-break layup and later added free throws before Joe Manning knocked down a three-pointer to stretch the Jaguars' lead to 39-24 with just over two minutes remaining in the half.

Koron Davis converted a late layup in the final minute, but Southern carried a 43-30 advantage into the locker room.

Second Half
Alabama A&M opened the second half with renewed energy as Davis scored inside to ignite a push. Dozier added a jumper and Graham converted inside to trim the deficit to 51-43 with 14:34 remaining.

Southern answered behind Jacobs and Dixon Jr., rebuilding a double-digit lead midway through the half as Dixon Jr. scored in the paint to make it 70-61 with 5:27 remaining.

The Bulldogs refused to go away. A pair of three-pointers from Louis Hutchinson sparked a surge that cut the deficit to five, and Dozier later converted a fast-break layup to pull Alabama A&M within 79-75 in the final minute.

After Southern extended the lead at the foul line, Davis drilled a three-pointer with five seconds remaining to bring the Bulldogs within one at 86-85. However, Southern sealed the contest at the free throw line in the closing seconds to secure the 88-85 victory.
