MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The Alabama A&M women's tennis team earned a strong 4-0 sweep over Mississippi Valley State on Thursday afternoon in Montgomery, improving to 1-7 overall on the season.
The Bulldogs set the tone early in doubles competition, capturing the point with dominant performances on courts one and two. Alicia Owegi and Nardine Salem secured a convincing 6-0 victory at the No. 1 position, while Melissa Mwakha and Sofia Sotelo Raya followed with another 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles to give Alabama A&M the early advantage.Â
Alabama A&M carried that momentum into singles play, where the Bulldogs quickly took control of the match. Alicia Owegi delivered a dominant (6-0, 6-0) victory at No. 1 singles, while Sofia Sotelo Raya added an additional strong straight-set performance with a (6-0, 6-0) win at the No. 3 position.Â
The Bulldogs continued to apply pressure across the lineup as Melissa Mwakha secured the deciding point at No. 4 singles to seal the 4-0 team victory.Â
