BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Alabama A&M University men's basketball team will begin Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Tournament play on Thursday as the Bulldogs will meet Texas Southern in the quarterfinals at the Gateway Center Arena in Atlanta, Ga.
Alabama A&M, the fifth seed in the tournament, will face off against the fourth seed, Texas Southern, in a 2 p.m. contest and streamed on ESPN+.
The two teams met just once during the regular season as the Tigers stormed back from a 16-point second-half deficit to pick up the 89-74 victory in Houston, Texas on Jan. 24.
Alabama A&M (17-14) enters tournament playing having dropped three out of the last four games, including the regular-season finale to Southern, 88-85, at the AAMU Event Center on March 5. Texas Southern (12-17) closed out the regular season having won two out of the last three games, with the loss coming in the regular season finale to rival Prairie View A&M.
Bethune-Cookman, the 2026 SWAC regular season champions, enters the tournament as the No. 1 seed. Florida A&M claimed the No. 2 seed, while Southern earned the No. 3 seed in the tournament.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff is the sixth seed, followed by Jackson State and Prairie View A&M, entering as the No. 7 and No. 8 seeds, respectively. Grambling State is the No. 9 seed and Alabama State is the 10
th seed. Alcorn State (No. 11 seed) and Mississippi Valley State (No. 12 seed) round out the seeding in the men's bracket.
