MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The Alabama A&M women's tennis team delivered a strong performance on Friday afternoon, defeating Southern 4-1 in Montgomery to earn an impressive victory in SWAC action.
The Bulldogs set the tone early by sweeping all three doubles matches to secure the opening point. Alicia Owegi and Nardine Salem earned a 6-3 victory at No. 1 doubles, while Tstitsi Mahere and Sofia Sotelo Raya followed with a 5-2 win at the No. 2 position. Alabama A&M completed the doubles sweep as Naomi Blanks and Melissa Mwakha claimed a 6-4 victory at No. 3.
Southern responded with a win at the No. 1 singles spot, but the Bulldogs quickly regained control across the lineup. Sofia Sotelo Raya secured a straight-set victory at No. 3 singles, (6-1, 6-3).
Alabama A&M continued to build energy as Melissa Mwakha earned a (6-4, 6-1) win at No. 4 singles, followed by Tstitsi Mahere clinching the match with a (7-5, 7-5) victory.
Two additional singles matches were left unfinished after the Bulldogs secured the decisive point.

Alabama A&M 2-7 overall will remain in Montgomery, Alabama to face Bethune-Cookman on March 7th. First serve is scheduled for 9 a.m.
