THE HILL | The Alabama A&M University baseball team fell behind early and could not recover in falling to rival Alabama State, 12-1 in seven innings, in a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) game on Saturday at the Bulldog Baseball Field.
Alabama State (17-16 overall, 7-7 SWAC) struck for a pair of runs in the top half of the first inning and exploded for five runs in the second to grab an early 7-0 lead.
The Hornets added two runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth to extend the advantage to 12-0.
Alabama A&M (8-29, 2-12) broke up the shutout in the bottom of the sixth as
Miles Jackson ripped a one-out double down the line in left and scored on an infield hit by
Brycen Hammonds as the Bulldogs cut the deficit to 12-1.
Evan Hurlburt (0-3) started on the bump for the Bulldogs and lasted 1.2 innings as he surrendered seven runs on six hits, with one strikeout.

Antonio Torres and Daveyon Lavender worked in relief.
Jorhan LaBoy (5-4) earned the win as he gave up one run on four hits, fanned five and walked one in six innings. Jacob Loeffler pitched the seventh inning in relief.
