THE HILL | The Alabama A&M University football team concluded its spring campaign with the annual Maroon & White game at Louis Crews Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Â
The defense was spotted a 17-point lead to begin the game and got off to a strong start after a
Keon Handley Jr. interception. In addition, the defense forced a three-and-out to push the lead to 20-0. However,
David Faulk connected on a field goal, followed by a
Mac Armstrong touchdown pass to
Jarel Williams to get the offense going.
Â
Jordan Chambers-Smith caught touchdown passes of 18 and 9 yards to highlight the offense.
Â
"I think we are ahead of where we were last year," Alabama A&M head coach
Sam Shade said. "We are further along than where we were last year. So, the bottom line is that we are always trying to improve and get better. So, we've felt during spring camp that we've made some progress."
Â
One notable player who was held out during Saturday's game was
Cornelious Brown IV, who is expected to start at quarterback this season for the Bulldogs.
Â
"All spring long we didn't know if Quad was going to get the waiver to come back this season," Shade said. "We wanted to give the other guys a lot of reps and try to find the number one guy coming out of the spring. Then, we got some great news on Quad. As we get into summer, he will get a lot more reps, particularly in training camp."
Â
Alabama A&M begins the 2026 season in Atlanta, Ga. as the Bulldogs take on Howard in the annual MEAC/SWAC Challenge. Kickoff against the Bison is set for 6:30 p.m. from Center Parc Stadium and will be televised live on ABC.
