THE HILL | The Alabama A&M University baseball team fought hard on Friday afternoon in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) game against Texas Southern, but could not overcome a four-run deficit in falling, 5-3, at the Bulldog Baseball Field.

Texas Southern (14-12 overall, 9-2 SWAC) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning and added three more in the second to extend the advantage to 4-0.

Alabama A&M (7-26, 2-9) picked up a run in the bottom of third when
Brycen Hammonds reached on an infield single and advanced to second off an error. He took third on a wild pitch and scored on a one-out base hit through the left side by
Miles Jackson.

The Bulldogs continued to cut the deficit, scoring one run in the bottom of the fourth.

Keilon Parnell walked and advanced to third when Devante Wellls reached on a bunt single.
AJ Anderson followed with a single through the right side as Parnell scored from third as AAMU trimmed the margin to 4-2.

The Tigers pushed the lead to 5-2 with one run in the top of the eighth.

Alabama A&M tried to rally in the ninth, but could only push one across in falling 5-3.

Parnell began the frame with a single through the left side and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. He advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly to right by Anderson.

The Bulldogs collected 12 hits, with Hammonds, Jackson and
Keondre Fields recording two each.

Nick Espinola (1-1) took the loss. He surrendered four runs (one earned) on seven hits, with one strikeout and one walk in three innings.

Antonio Torres pitched in relief

Jose Luccioni (2-0) earned the win as he gave up two runs (one earned) on 10 hits, with three strikeouts and two walks in eight innings. Seve Medrano worked the ninth for his first save of the season.
