BATON ROUGE, La. |Laura Avila is off to a huge start in the 2026 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships as she set a new school record in the 10,000 meters on Sunday night at A.W. Mumford Stadium.

Avila, who notched her fifth school record in just her junior season, posted a new personal-best time of 37:54.58 to win the 10000m. Teammate
Sanyae Gibson claimed second, with a time of 39:32.17, while Nevaeh Carrizal finished 10
th in 44:46.23.

- In the 1500m prelims, Brianna Samuels qualified for the finals, with a time of 5:01.04, while teammate Minka Isom was 12th in the prelims and advanced to the finals in 5:04.87

- Juan Osorio and Eric Brannon qualified for the 1500m finals after running 4:07.17 and 4:07.39 in the prelims

- Frankie Pollock placed seventh in the hammer throw, posting a toss of 46.23m
- Olivier Jean and Justin Walker finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the long jump at 7.56m and 7.48m
