BATON ROUGE, La. | The Alabama A&M University baseball team nearly rallied from an eight-run deficit, but could not complete the comeback in a 15-13 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) loss to Southern on Saturday at Lee-Hines Stadium.

Southern (27-21 overall, 20-7 SWAC) jumped out to a 4-0 lead with four runs in the bottom of the first inning, but Alabama A&M answered in the top of the second.

With one down in the frame,
Keondre Fields singled to left and advanced to second on a walk to
Tervell Johnson.
Colin Mason also drew a walk to load the bases.
Charles Morris followed with a double down the line in life to score Fields and Johnson. With two outs,
Miles Jackson reached on an error as Mason scored. Morris came across to score on a
Brycen Hammonds double to left center as the Bulldogs tied the game at 4.

However, the Jaguars erupted for eight runs on six hits in the bottom of the inning to grab a 12-4 advantage.

Despite the big deficit, Alabama A&M (10-44, 4-26) continued to battle back, with two runs in the third and three more in the fourth to close the gap to 12-9.

In the fourth inning, AAMU loaded the bases and walked away with three runs.
AJ Anderson scored on a sacrifice fly by Johnson, Rice came across on a single by Mason and Morris doubled to plate Fields.

The score remained 12-9 until the seventh when the Jaguars picked up a run to push the lead to 13-9.

The Bulldogs responded with three runs in the top half of the eighth to cut the deficit to 13-12.

Back came Southern in the bottom of the frame with two runs and Alabama A&M could only pick up one run in the ninth for the 15-13 loss.

Johnson led the Bulldog offense by going 3-for-3, with four RBIs and three runs scored, while Morris was 3-for-4, with four RBIs and one run scored. Mason collected three hits and Fields added two.

Virgil Heath Jr. (0-5) took the loss as he surrendered 12 runs on eight hits, with three walks in 1.1 innings.

Daveyon Lavendar,
Jordan Nolley, Griff Minor and
William Tarpley pitched in relief.

Caden Brown started for Southern and gave up four runs (two earned) on three hits, fanned three and walked two in two innings. Jeremiah Eneix, Kenneth Jackson, Daniel McIntosh, Rupert Blackwood and Genesis Prosper worked out of the bullpen.
