CHICAGO, Ill. | First-half goals from Jordyn Washington and Czaske Deane lifted the Alabama A&M women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Chicago State on Thursday at Gwendolyn Brooks College Prep.
The win marked the Bulldogs' first victory of the season, improving their record to 1-1.
Alabama A&M opened the scoring in the 12th minute when Washington found the back of the net to give the Bulldogs an early 1-0 advantage. Chicago State responded in the 19th minute in attempt to keep up with AAMU.
The Bulldogs quickly regained control when Deane delivered the eventual game-winning goal in the 23rd minute, sending AAMU into halftime with a 2-1 lead.
Alabama A&M's defense protected the one-goal advantage throughout the second half. Goalkeeper Adriana Durango played all 90 minutes and recorded two saves to earn the victory.
The Bulldogs controlled the offensive action, outshooting the Cougars 16-8 while holding a 12-3 advantage in shots on goal. AAMU also generated seven corner kicks compared to one for Chicago State.
Deane led the Bulldogs with three shots, including two on goal, while Brea Bailey added two shots.
