NASHVILLE, Tenn. | Laura Avila finished 12^th and Sanyae Gibson placed 18^th as the Alabama A&M University women's cross country team began its season on Tuesday morning at the Vanderbilt Opener at Percy Warner Park.
 
Avila crossed the line in 19 minutes and five seconds to claim the 12^th spot, while Gibson's time of 19:46.56 gave Alabama A&M two inside the Top 20. Minka Isom just missed a spot inside the Top 21, placing 21^st, with a time of 19:59.65.
 
Mariana Bentancourt-Dennard finished right behind Isom in 22^nd, posting a time of 20:08.67, and Iyndia Bey rounded out the scoring in 26^th, logging a time of 20:36.82.
 
Kennedy Hill (30^th), Leila Sollas (31^st) and Kayla Fluker (32^nd) also competed in the event.
 
The Bulldogs finished fourth, logging 96 points, while host Vanderbilt won the meet with 20 points. Belmont was second (39 points), followed by Lipscomb (85 points). Tennessee State rounded out the team scoring.
 
Alabama A&M returns to the course on Friday, Sept. 11 as the Bulldogs host The Legacy Series Invite.
