HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | The Alabama A&M University women's cross country team turned in a dominant performance Friday, placing four runners among the top four overall finishers as the Bulldogs captured the team championship at the Legacy Series Invite at John Hunt Park.
 
Alabama A&M finished with 22 points to comfortably claim first place in the six-team field. Jacksonville State was second with 49 points, followed by Calhoun Community College (61), Tennessee State (121), Mississippi Valley State (125) and Miles (158).
 
Senior Laura Avila led the Bulldogs across the finish line, winning the women's 5K individual title with a season-best time of 18:51.4. Fellow senior Sanyae Gibson followed in second place with a season-best 19:25.9, while senior Mariana Bentacourt-Dennard completed the course in 19:31.4 to give Alabama A&M a sweep of the top three positions.
 
Freshman Iyndia Bey made it four consecutive Bulldogs across the line, placing fourth overall with a personal-best time of 19:38.7. Alabama A&M was the only program with a runner to break the 21-minute mark, with its first four finishers all accomplishing the feat.
 
Sophomore Kennedy Hill rounded out Alabama A&M's scoring five, finishing 12th overall with a season-best 21:36.7. Sophomore Kayla Fluker followed in 13th with a personal-best 21:38.7, while freshman Leila Sollas placed 15th in a personal-best 22:09.8.
 
The Bulldogs' scoring runners finished first, second, third, fourth and 12th, giving Alabama A&M a 27-point victory over runner-up Jacksonville State.
 
Alabama A&M returns to the course on Friday, Sept. 18 as the Bulldogs compete in the Southern Showcase at John Hunt Park. Action begins at 8:30 a.m.
