Box Score / HOUSTON, TX - The Alabama A&M women’s basketball team dominated Texas Southern University on the road to walk away with a 58-42 victory at H&PE Arena in Houston, Tex. The Bulldogs were led by Katrich Williams’ game-high 15 points off the bench. A&M improves to 8-10 overall, and a 6-2 mark in SWAC play. A&M will look for another win when it plays Prairie View A&M on Monday Feb. 2 at 3 p.m.
A&M struck first with a Ashleonte’ Samuel layup. TSU responded with a three pointer by Trikeyia East. The Bulldogs regained the advantage at the 15:19 mark with a Chelsea Marshall basket. A basket by Chaymieyon Moss ignited A&M to rip off a 15-6 run over a seven plus minute span to achieve a 12 points cushion, 26-14 – its largest of the game – with just over 14 minutes remaining in the half. The Bulldogs took a comfortable 33-21 margin at the half.
In the second half, A&M went up by as many as 17 points, 47-30, with just under nine minutes to play. The Bulldogs dominated the second period, keeping the double digit lead until the end to cruise to the 58-42 win.
Dominisha Johnson had a productive night for A&M with 10 points on 3-of-5 shooting from the field and a perfect 4-for-4 from the stripe. Jenna Collier and Marshall tallied seven points each for the Bulldogs. Erica Thompson dished out seven assists in the victory. A&M controlled the boards, 34-29.
For Texas Southern, East lead her team with 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting. Jaquenta Richard chipped in with nine points and dished out five assists.
The Bulldogs will be back in action on Feb. 2 to face Prairie View A&M beginning at 3 p.m.
