A&M Pulls Off 49-46 Win Over UAPB

Bulldogs split series with the Golden Lions

Box Score / The Bulldogs were tied 46-46 with 1:35 left off a tip-in by Dominisha Johnson. A free throw by Erica Thompson put A&M up by one and the team never looked back as the Bulldogs edged the Lady Lions of Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 49-46, at Elmore Gym on Monday night. A&M splits the series with Pine Bluff as the Bulldogs improve to 9-12 on the season and 7-4 in the SWAC. Alabama A&M is back in action when it travels to Montgomery, Ala. on Saturday Feb. 14 to face Alabama State beginning at 3 p.m.

The second half was close as the score was knotted on 10 different occasions and changed hands six times. For the game, A&M shot 42.5 percent (17-for-40) from the field while holding UAPB to a 35.4 percent clip (17-for-48). The Bulldogs were 4-of-10 (40 percent) from behind the arc and scored 14 points off of 25 total Lady Lion miscues. A&M dominated Pine Bluff on the glass, 35-25.

Katrich Williams led all scorers with a game-best 17 points on 5-of-10 shooting, including 2-for-3 from three-point land. Johnson had seven points and a team-high six boards in 24 minutes of play. Thompson dished out five assists in the victory.

A&M started the game with an 12-2 run to take a double digit advantage within the first five minutes of play. Pine Bluff responded by scoring nine unanswered to cut it to 12-11. A&M used a trey and another bucket by Williams to push the spread to 17-11 with 7:37 on the clock. The Bulldogs held a slim 23-20 advantage at the half.

For UAPB, Ciara Shields led her team with 11 points and five rebounds. LaQuisha Slaton tallied 10 points. Arica Green and Tashayla Jackson chipped in with seven points each.

The Bulldogs will play at Alabama State on Sat. Feb. 14. The game is slated for 3 p.m.
