Women Drop Final Home Game to PV

Three players reached double figures

Box Score / Katrich Williams led the Bulldogs with 16 points in 33 minutes of action as A&M dropped its home game finale to Prairie View, 73-57, at Elmore Gym on Mon. March 2. Ashleonte Samuel had 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field. Chelsea Marshall tallied 10 points and a team-best seven rebounds. With the loss, the Bulldogs drop to 8-8 in the SWAC and a 10-16 overall mark. A&M will take to the road to play Grambling on Thurs. March 5 beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Prairie View took a 17-4 advantage with just under 14 minutes to play in the first period. A&M sliced into the deficit and brought the margin to 24-16 at the 8:25 mark. The Panthers pushed the spread to 15 with just over a minute left in the half. Erica Thompson's layup right before time expired ended scoring for the period and the Bulldogs went into intermission trailing 37-24.

Ignited by a Williams basket from behind the arc, A&M ripped of a 10-2 run to bring it to within eight, 42-34, by the 17 minute mark of the second period. The Panthers pushed the spread to as many as 17 (59-42) with 8:29 left in the game. The Bulldogs chipped away at the lead and trailed 64-53 with 3:46 remaining in regulation, but could get no closer than that.

For the game, the Bulldogs shot 21-for-52 for a 40.4 shooting clip. PVAM connected on 27-of-56 hoops for a 48.2 shooting percentage. A&M had 21 bench points and converted 22 points off 21 Panther miscues.

Prairie View was led by Gatti Werema's game-high 23 points and nine boards. Dominique Smith scored 21 points on 5-of-11 shooting. Candice Thomas chipped in with eight points on the night.

The Bulldogs will face Grambling on March 5 for a 5:30 p.m. tip.
