Over the weekend, the Duke baseball team took two games off No. 1 North Carolina, and Tuesday got all it could handle from Alabama A&M before defeating the Bulldogs twice, 4-2 in game one and 13-2 in the nightcap. The Bulldogs had chances in each contest and actually took a 2-0 lead in the second game before the Blue Devils rallied.
Game 1 - Duke 4, Alabama A&M 2
Box Score
Grant Mattix was stellar on the mound spreading out seven Blue Devil hits in a complete game performance. The A&M offense managed just three hits, and Alton Ellison and Kenneth Townsend each drove in runs for the Bulldogs.
Trailing 3-0 entering the sixth, A&M rallied for two runs and had the tying run in scoring position before the rally stalled. The Blue Devils pushed across an insurance run in the sixth and held on for the win.
Game 2 - Duke 13, Alabama A&M 2
Box Score
Alabama A&M opened up a two-run lead early as Jeremy Bush singled and scored in the second innings, but the Bulldogs stranded two runners in that inning and could not mount a rally after that.
