Bulldogs Open SWAC Play with Sweep of Alcorn

A&M 2-0 for first time in SWAC play since 2003

Game 1 Box Score / Game 2 Box Score - Alabama A&M got two solid pitching performances from Bernard McKinney and Christopher Hernandez as the Bulldogs swept the opening two games of the conference season Friday, 4-2 and 6-4, over Alcorn State.  McKinney scatterred three hits en route to a complete game in the opener, and Hernandez worked six complete innings for the win in the nightcap. This is the first time since joining the Southwestern Athletic Conference that the Bulldogs have begun a conference season with two wins since 2003.

Game 1 - A&M 4, Alcorn State 2
McKinney was excellent on the mound, and the Bulldog offense got just enough timely hits to secure the win. He gave up just one earned run on three hits, walked two and struck out two.

Diego Lopez was 2-3 with a double and an RBI.  Alton Ellison also collected two hits, both doubles, and scored a run.  The Bulldogs capitalized on four Brave errors as all four Bulldog runs were unearned.

Game 2 - A&M 6, Alcorn State 4
A&M scored six times in the first three innings and built a 6-1 lead en route to the win. Kenneth Townsend and Maverick Scott each collected two hits, and Jeremy Bush provided a two-RBI pinch hit single in the third.

Hernandez got the win on the mound, and Grant Mattix survived a rocky final inning to close out the game for the Bulldogs.
