Bulldogs Salvage Final Game at Alcorn, Closer to SWAC Tournament Berth

A&M defeats Braves 17-11 after falling in first two games

Game 1 Box Score - Alcorn 10, A&M 5
Game 2 Box Score - Alcorn 9, A&M 4
Game 3 Box Score - A&M 17, Alcorn 11

Alabama A&M took a step closer to a SWAC Tournament berth Saturday with a 17-11 victory at Alcorn State, salvaging the third and final game of the series.  The Bulldogs pounded out 20 hits, and Grant Mattix threw his second straight complete game win.  The victory pushes A&M to 10-17 overall and 6-9 in the conference, but gives the Dogs a 4-2 season series advantage over Alcorn State as the Bulldogs swept an earlier series in Huntsville.

Alton Ellison drove in five runs on three hits, and Kency Duarte and LaDale Hayes each had four hits as A&M rolled in the final game. The Bulldogs stormed to a 7-0 lead and were never seriously threatened after that.  Marcus Spencer drove in three runs, including a two-run triple in the seventh.  The win was the first road win for the Bulldogs this season.

Alcorn swept both games on Friday, 10-5 and 9-4.

Fabian Harper led the way in the first game going 3-3 with an RBI. Chris Herenandez took the loss on the mound.

Diego Lopez collected three hits in the nightcap Friday, and Bernard McKinney was the pitcher of record in the loss.
