Two Thrillers Go A&M's Way;
Bulldogs Sweep DH from Jackson

First win over Tigers in five years

Game 1 - A&M 6, JSU 4 (10 inn.)
Game 2 - A&M 3, JSU 2

Before Friday, Alabama A&M had not defeated Jackson State in baseball since the 2004 season. After Friday, the Bulldogs have a two-game winning streak over the Tigers with wins of 6-4 in 10 innings and 3-2 heading into Saturday's doubleheader at Bulldog Field. A&M won each game in its final at bat to move to 12-19 overall and 8-9 in the SWAC. Marcus Spencer stood out for the Bulldogs in both games finishing 5-7 with a homer, two RBI, and three runs scored on the day.

Game 1 - A&M 6, JSU 4
Alabama A&M was the visiting team in a game that was a makeup from the rained out finale of the earlier series at Jackson.  The Bulldogs didn't waste any time in taking the lead, scoring twice in the top of the first.  Alton Ellison's ground out RBI plated an unearned run after LaDale Hayes reached on an error.

The Tigers battled back to time the game with single runs in the second and fourth, but Spencer led off the A&M fifth with a home run to give the Bulldogs a 3-2 lead. The Dogs added an unearned insurance run in the seventh before JSU rallied to tie the game with two runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Neither team scored until the top of the 10th.  Spencer's sacrifice fly plated the go-ahead run for A&M, and Kency Duarte stole second and advance to third and home on a throwing error on the play.

Grant Mattix continued his stellar play on the mound with a complete game victory in which he threw 140 pitches.

Game 2 - A&M 3, JSU 2
Kenneth Townsend's pinch hit RBI single with one out in the bottom of the ninth won the game for Alabama A&M. The Bulldogs scratched out single runs in the fourth and fifth to take a 2-0 lead. LaDale Hayes' RBI double gave A&M the lead in the fourth, and Fabian Harper drove in a run in the fifth with a sacrifice fly.

A&M starter Chris Hernandez scattered four Tiger hits through seven innings and left with a 2-0 lead.  That lead would not last as JSU rallied to tie the game in the top of the eighth.  A.J. Campbell was charged with both runs for the A&M pitching staff, but Kellen Toone got the Dogs out of a jam in the eighth, recording the final out.  Hayes came in the top of the ninth and easily retired the final out for A&M to set up Townsend's heroics.
