Seniors Lead Sunday Sweep of Bama State;
Baseball Team Headed to SWAC Tourney

Series victory over Hornets earns first berth since 2000

Game 1 - Alabama State 8, Alabama A&M 3
Game 2 - Alabama A&M 4, Alabama State 3
Game 3 - Alabmaa A&M 6, Alabama State 5 (9 inn.)

Marcus Spencer, Maverick Scott, Bernard McKinney -- all are senior Alabama A&M baseball players that played vital roles Sunday in securing the Bulldogs' first SWAC Tournament berth in nearly a decade. Spencer's three-run double was the big blast in a 4-3 win in game one, and Scott doubled home the winning run in extra innings for a 6-5 win in the nightcap. McKinney worked four innings on the mound in relief to earn the victory.  The Bulldogs needed the sweep on Sunday to put away any chance of Alabama State catching them for a spot in the league tournament after the Hornets won the series opener 8-3 on Friday night.

Game 1 - Alabama State 8, Alabama A&M 3
The Hornets got all the timely hits in the series opener Friday night.  Grant Mattix took the loss for A&M.  Diego Lopez collected three hits for the Bulldogs, but A&M left eight men on base.  Alton Ellison had two hits, including an RBI double.

Game 2 - Alabama A&M 4, Alabama State 3
Mattix recorded the final three outs to save the win for Chris Hernandez.  Spencer's three-run double game the Bulldogs the lead for good in the third inning.  McKinney and Scott combined for a double steal of home and second, respectively to add the difference-making insurance run in the top of the seventh.

Game 3 - Alabama A&M 6, Alabama State 5 (9 inn.)
Scott's RBI double in the top of the ninth drove in the winning run and series clincher for A&M. McKinney worked 4.0 scoreless innings in relief of A.J. Campbell to earn the victory.  Ellison, Scott, Kency Duarte, and Jerard Thomas each had two base hits in the game.
