One-hitter Gives A&M Win in Valley Series

MVSU wins 3 of 4 in SWAC showdown

Photo Gallery / Chris Hernandez pitched a one-hit gem in game two of a four-game weekend series against Mississippi Valley State earning a 2-1 victory when Fabian Harper singled home the game-winning run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning.  The Delta Devils took three out of four in the series winning games one (16-4), three (10-3), and four (2-0).  The Bulldogs remain in strong contention for their first SWAC Tournament berth heading into a weekend series at Alcorn State.

Game 1 - MVSU 16, AAMU 4 / Box Score
Mississippi Valley rushed to an 8-0 lead and at one point led 14-1. Robert Scott drove in two runs for the Bulldogs. Marcus Spencer homered for A&M. Bernard McKinney took the loss on the mound.

LaDale Hayes

Game 2 - AAMU 2, MVSU 1 / Box Score
Hernandez gave up one run in the first without giving up a hit.  A&M responded in the first on an RBI double by LaDale Hayes.  Hayes also helped the defensive effort with a remarkable catch in center field in the seventh to set up Harper's game-winner.

Game 3 - MVSU 10, AAMU 3 / Box Score
Much like game one, MVSU stormed to a big lead and held on for the victory.  Chris Jennings lasted just 1.1 innings for the Bulldogs.  Kency Duarte had two hits and an RBI.

Game 4 - MVSU 2, AAMU 0 / Box Score
A.J. Campbell was outstanding on the mound, but the Bulldog bats could not push across a run in the final game of the series.  J.T. Thomas and Marcus Spencer each had two hits, but A&M didn't get a runner past second base.
