Bulldogs Battle in final Non-Conference Contests

NORMAL – The Alabama A&M men’s and women’s basketball teams will be in action on Tuesday, December 28th. Both contest will be the final non-conference tune-ups before SWAC play begins on January 4th.

Auburn will be Alabama A&M's third consecutive SEC opponent after dropping decisions to Kentucky (84-58) and at Alabama (67-62). The Bulldogs' last win came prior to the Kentucky game in a 75-68 home win over Minnesota. Their match is set for 6 p.m.

Whiquitta Tobar has led Alabama A&M through the season so far, averaging 18.1 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. The reigning SWAC Player of the Week also leads the team in assists (3.9) and steals (2.3) while accounting for nearly 40 percent of the team's offense.

As a team, Alabama A&M shoots 37.1 percent from the field and 25.9 percent from 3-point range. The Bulldogs average 4.0 3-pointers per game with four different players hitting at least seven this season. The A&M defense forces 20.9 turnovers per game on 8.8 steals while blocking 2.2 shots per game.

After time off for final exams, Auburn went on the road for an eight-day, three-game road trip in Washington, D.C., Indianapolis and Chicago. The Tigers picked up wins at George Washington (52-45) and at Chicago State (67-63) while falling to Purdue (76-56).

The A&M men’s basketball team will challenge the Wolfpack of North Carolina State University at 4 p.m. EST in the RBC Center on Tuesday. 

The men’s squad is led by Cornelius Hester with 11 points and 2.9 rebounds per match-up.

In their last outing the Bulldogs fell 58-40 on December 19th to Alabama-Birmingham. Their last victory came against Martin Methodist College 75-70 on the first Saturday in December.

In his 23rd year, head coach Vann Pettaway will be facing the Wolfpack for the first time at the helm of the Bulldog basketball program.

NC State's home court has not been welcoming to non-conference opponents since the RBC Center opened for the 1999-2000 season. The Pack has posted an 88-12 (.880) record in such games.
