Bulldogs Take One at UAPB

Katrich Williams led the Alabama A&M women’s basketball team with 22 points in the 57-55 road victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday Feb. 6. Williams went 6-for-9 from the field, including a perfect 8-for-8 from the charity stripe. Nadra Robertson and Whiquitta Tobar chipped in with seven points each. With the win, A&M is 6-4 in SWAC play. The Bulldogs are back in action on Monday Feb. 8 at Mississippi Valley beginning at 5:30 p.m.


Pine Bluff held as much as a seven point advantage, 42-34, at the 12:41 mark. Eight straight unanswered gave A&M its first advantage since the 17:54. The Golden Lions retook the lead off a free throw by Shay Holmes. UAPB held a slim three point advantage with 1:30 remaining in regulation. A Williams basket at :58 cut it to 55-54. A steal and a fast break layup by Williams on the next possession gave the Bulldogs a one point edge, 56-55. A Tobar free throw within the last few seconds ending scoring for the game.

 

For the Golden Lions, Holmes tallied a double-double with 19 points and 12 boards in 34 minutes of action. Laquisha Slaton had nine points on the night.

 

As a team, A&M shot 53.8 percent from the field (21-for-39), while holding UAPB to a 30 percent clip (18-for-60). The Bulldogs also scored 26 points off 24 Golden Lion miscues.

 

A&M is back in action on Monday Feb. 8 at Mississippi Valley. The game is slated for 5:30 p.m.
