A&M, Jackson Split Rain-shortened Series

Bulldogs notch first conference win

Box Scores  /  Game 1 - JSU 2, AAMU 0  /  Game 2 - AAMU 8, JSU 6
Alabama A&M and Jackson State split the first two games in their SWAC baseball series Saturday at Bulldog Field, and Sunday's game has been postponed by the weather. The Bulldogs rallied in the second game to earn their first conference victory of the season and even their overall record at 12-12.

Game 1 - JSU 2, AAMU 0
Jackson State's Quintavious Drains threw a two-hit shutout in the opener. The Bulldog offense was unable to capitalize on its limited scoring chances and wasted an outstanding pitching performance by A.J. Campbell (3-2). Campbell went the distance scatterring seven hits and giving up just one earned run. Demarcus Steward and Noel Santos collected the only base hits for A&M in the opener.

Game 2 - AAMU 8, JSU 6
LaDale Hayes led the offense with two doubles, a single, two RBI, and three runs scored as A&M rallied from a 6-3 deficit to post its first SWAC victory of the season. Manny Lora (2-2) worked 4.2 innings of one-hit baseball to earn the victory, shutting down the Tigers after they built the lead.

Hayes drove in Lamar Bridges for the go-ahead run in the seventh after Bridges led off the inning with a single and stole second.  Chales McKay's single plated Hayes with the insurance run the Bulldogs needed.

The Tigers had the tying runs in scoring position in the ninth, but Lora got a strikeout and a ground ball back to the mound to end the game.
