A&M edges In-State Rival ASU, 55-50

- The Alabama A&M Lady Bulldogs used a late second half surge to hold off the Alabama State Hornets, 55-50 in front of 2,015 fans in Elmore Gymnasium Saturday night.
 
The majority of the contest was back and forth as there were three ties and six lead changes. The Lady Hornets had an outstanding performance by forward Tanika Jackson who posted a double-double 18 points and 15 boards.
 
The visitors held the edge going into the second half leading 27-21. For the Lady Bulldogs, junior guard Whiquitta Tobar would come through in the final period, scoring 10 of her team high 23 points. The Warmely led sqaud would ultimately hold the edge in points off turnovers as ASU was called for 17 violations. 
 
A&M junior Nesfayia Watkins netted 12 points while sophomore NaDra Robertson also had 12. Alabama State falls to 4-12 overall and 1-4 in conference play.  The Maroon and White winning streak was pushed to five straight victories in conference play and a 9-6 overall record.
 
The Lady Bulldogs will return to action this Saturday, January 22, as they will play host to Alcorn State. Game time is slated for 4:00 p.m. on “The Hill”.
