HOUSTON – Whiquitta Tobar running jumper as time expired gave the Alabama A&M University Lady Bulldogs a 52-50 win over the Texas Southern University Saturday night.
Defense was instrumental for both teams in the evening's matchup. The Tigers held A&M to just 19 made field goals while conversely the Bulldogs held Texas Southern to 19 of 57 from the field.
Both teams shooting percentage was in the low 30’s, with a halftime score at 26 all.
The defensive looks A&M gave TSU gave kept the Tigers off kilter most of the night as they forced an opponent season high 29 turnovers which led to 21 Maroon & White points.
Both squads combined for 24 free throws in the game; the Maroon and White had 12 makes on 21 attempts while TSU (3-16, 1-7 SWAC) made 11 out of 20.
A&M (10-8, 6-2 SWAC) held a 51-44 rebounding edge in the game and was led by Tobar’s game high 17 points and six rebounds.
Gabrielle Rosiji was the high lady for the Tigers with 14 points.
The Lady Bulldogs will play at Prairie View A&M on Monday, Jan. 31 at 5:30 p.m.
