AAMU stings Lady Hornets 60-47

MONTGOMERY  - Whiquitta Tobar led all scorers with 24 points as the Alabama A&M Lady Bulldogs topped in-state rival the Alabama State University Lady Hornets 60-47.

ASU shot 19.2%; from the field while A&M, 12-10 overall and 8-4 SWAC, connected on 50% of their shot attempts in the first half.

When the clock hit zeros at the end of the first half the Maroon & White held a 29-18 advantage.

 
In the second half the Lady Bulldogs built their widest point margin (51-31) with 6:52 remaining.  The Lady Hornets began to cut into that lead and narrowed it down to nine points (51-42) at the 4:14 mark.  That was the closes they would come.
From there AAMU's Tobar scored five points and NaDra Robertson added two more that pushed the lead back out 56-42 and ended ASU's run and hopes for a comeback.

ASU was led by Millicent Jones who scored 11 points. Yahindra Edwards finished with 10, while Tanika Jackson was held 14 points below her average. She scored six points and finished with 13 rebounds.
 
After a week off A&M will face the Lady Braves of Alcorn State on Saturday, Feb. 19 for a 2:30 p.m. tip. Last time they met Alabama A&M fell 61-43 to the Lady Braves.
