GAME ONE
GAME TWO
NORMAL – First-year head coach Ed McCann earned his first victory in the Maroon & White with a 5-2 decision over Florida A&M University Saturday afternoon. The win took place in the second game of the three-game series with the Rattlers.
In the home opener the Bulldogs (1-6) posted a season high nine hits but only produced three runs versus FAMU. Senior Demarcus Stewart led the Maroon & White by going 3 of 3 at the plate with five putouts and two fielding assists. Senior Kenny Kiser posted the lone run batted in, while senior Kency Duarte and junior James Brown each crossed home plate. Pitcher Sanchez Tucker recorded the complete game and finished with six strikeouts in seven innings. A&M would leave six on base and fell 5-2.
In the second contest, of Saturday’s doubleheader, the Bulldog bats stayed hot by posting runs in the first, third and sixth innings. A&M took their first lead of the year with a Duarte double to left field that scored sophomore Lamar Bridges. Florida A&M then took a 2-1 lead in the top of the second but A&M would regain the scoring margin in the bottom of the third. Bridges and Brown’s runs would give Alabama A&M their second lead of the year. The McCann led squad would post two more insurance runs in the sixth inning off of red-shirt freshman Eric Brandon and Kiser’s runs as a result of Stewart’s single to left field.
“The first win is important as is the will to win,” said the first-year head coach Ed McCann. “On the hill a foundation is being laid for future greatness.”
Duarte led all batters with three hits while Bridges posted two runs.
The final contest in the three game home opening series will be played on Sunday, Feb. 27 at 12:00 pm. A single nine inning contest is scheduled.
