SENIOR NIGHT
NORMAL – It was "Senior Day" in the T.M. Elmore Gymnasium but junior Whiquitta Tobar led the way as Alabama A&M topped Texas Southern 60-46 Saturday afternoon.
A&M held a 25-23 lead at the intermission despite an uncharacteristic nine first half turnovers. The Lady Bulldogs miscues led to seven points in the Tigers' favor before the break.
The Maroon and White shot a dismal 34% from the floor in the second half and went 9 of 13 from the free throw line. Despite holding their opponents to just 28% from the field, A&M’s lack of rebounding proved to be their un-doing in Saturday's game. The Tigers held a 41-37 advantage on the boards including 19 offensive rebounds.
NaDra Robertson was behind Tobar in points as she quietly earned nine points.
Gabrielle Rosiji and Jasmine Cannon each paced TSU with 14 points as the Tigers slip to 5-21 on the year, 3-12 in the SWAC.
A&M (13-12, 9-6 SWAC) will close out the regular home season against Prairie View A&M on Monday, Feb. 28 at 5:30 p.m. on “The Hill.”
