JACKSON – The Maroon & White baseball team earned their first Southwestern Athletic Conference victory by sneaking out a 6-5 win in the final contest of the three-game series with Jackson State University this past weekend.
A&M (3-18, 1-8 SWAC) fell 11-5 and 25-1 in the first two games of the league series. In the final game of the league contests the Bulldogs put two runs on the board in the top the ninth when junior Lamar Bridges connected on his second double of the season and scored James Brown and Juan Lopez to tie the score 5-5. Bridges then scored on a double steal from second and third base to put the Maroon & White ahead 6-5.
Starting pitcher Manny Lora then ended his first complete game with two strike outs and a fly out to end the series and earn his first SWAC win. Lora finished with a season high 10 strike outs and 41 batters faced.
Kency Duarte went 4 for 5 with two RBI’s and two doubles while Lopez posted a season high three stolen bases.
Next up the Bulldogs will face the Mississippi State University Bulldogs on Tuesday, March 29 at 6:30 p.m. in Starkville, Miss.
