UNO trips up Bulldogs in Series Finale

Boxscore

NORMAL – The University of New Orleans prevented Alabama A&M from reaching a three-game win streak for the first time on the season by posting a 5-4 victory in the finale of a weekend series between the two teams at Bulldog Field. It was A&M’s longest game of 2011.

Trailing 3-2 entering the eighth inning, UNO leftfielder delivered an RBI single to score a run. Nolan Church advanced to third base on the single and would score the go-ahead run in the frame on an Andrew Garcia sacrifice fly.

The Bulldogs answered back in the bottom of the eighth to tie the score before Farrell provided the knockout punch in the top of the 10th inning with a double that scored Cameron Wheeless from first base. Wheeless had led off the inning with a single.

Tyler Sanders
(1-7) retired the side in the Maroon & White’s half of the 10th to seal the victory for the Privateers.

Sanders allowed one run on two hits while striking out two in his three innings of work. Sanders relieved Coby Landry to start the eighth after Landry held the hosts off the scoreboard for four innings, while allowing just two hits.

James Brown (1-1) was on the wrong side of the result for AAMU after throwing six innings of relief for starter Norbert Riggins. Brown yielded three runs – two earned – on five hits while striking out five during his stint in the ballgame.

A&M was led by Juan Lopez with a 2 for 5 performance with two runs and two RBI’s. Brown finished the day 2 for 4 with a run batted in.

The Bulldogs will travel to Nashville, Tennessee on Tuesday for a 6:00 p.m. contest versus Lipscomb University. The single nine inning game in Tennessee will close out the team's three-game, non-conference schedule.
